Spyder Racing Supplies
The Spyder brand was created to provide quality gear to ski racers. In 1977 David Jacobs watched his sons in the ski race circuit and realized that there was only one brand of race sweaters available. He set out to design a better product and created sweaters that were made “for racing, by racers” under the business name David L Jacobs, Incorporated. The following year he created a blue racing pant with yellow striped protective pads that ski racers affectionately nicknamed “spider” pants for their spider leg appearance. Jacobs took inspiration from the Ferrari Spyder and changed the name of his company in 1978.
In the 1980s, breakaway gates changed racing technique and Spyder’s World Cup Pant began to be used by national teams. Spyder became the official supplier to the U.S. Ski Team in 1989 and continues to be a strong force in the Ski Racing community. The first web graphic was placed on a Spyder Suit in 1984 creating the iconic look of Spyder Race suits for years to come. Spyder has continued to evolve with the changes in ski racing to provide high quality products that perform the way racers need them to.
