But where does this classic heritage stem from? Luhta's story starts in 1907 in Lahti, Finland, where Vihtori and Jenny Luhtanen decided to start the clothing company. Jenny designed and sewed the clothes while Vihtori was responsible for selling them in the market. At the time, they sold underwear, aprons, cotton work shirts, mole skin trousers, and regatta shirts, a big fashion item at the time. They endured the textile shortages of the 1930's. By the 1950's and 1960's when the industry had recovered, Luhta became the biggest outdoor clothing manufacturer and huge success as a brand name in Finland. Their innovations leading up to the 1980's cemented Luhta's expansion into continental Europe, and now Bob's is happy to offer Luhta in our stores.
